EVO,sponsors of the world’s “largest and longest-running” fighting game tournaments are partnering up with the NYU Game Center to create a scholarship for a member of the fighting game community.
The plan is to give The EVO Scholarship to a student annually. The requirements are they must be active in the community (the fighting game one, not volunteering at nursing homes like boring scholarships) and have an interest in game design.
The amount of the scholarship hasn’t been settled yet. The money will be determined by the revenue from the EVO Pay-per-view stream which usually gets between $20,000 and $30,000.
Not that kids need a reason but this scholarship offers a great incentive for kids to get into the fighting game scene and participate in the community that is rarely boring or predictable.
